Welcome to the domain of a proposal for the "European thematic network on rfid"

Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) tags are on the brink of massive deployment in both business and consumer environments, in Europe and elsewhere. To share best practices, develop common policies, and understand the privacy risks of RFID, the European Commission calls for the set-up of a European Network on RFID which will be supported by the Competitiveness and Innovation framework Programme (CIP) in its Work Programme 2008 for ICT policy support1.

The aim of the network is to create a federating platform for all European stakeholders in the development and usages of RFID technology and, therefore, to establish the European Union as a world leader in RFID excellence by addressing barriers to adoption and deployment as well as fragmentation in the marketplace.

This platform would also act as a driving force for coordination, support and strengthening of the national bodies. It should involve a large number of Member States' authorities dealing with public RFID issues, and also include the participation of civil society, RFID advocacy groups, research agencies, and possibly industry, where relevant.
